When do people seek therapy?
I have a wealth of experience working as a psychotherapist in a variety of settings and with a diverse range of clients. People come to see me with a wide spectrum of issues including, traumatic experiences, unhappiness in their work, family life or in intimate relationships, or problematic behaviour patterns that interfere with personal happiness. Therapy can be useful for people who have had traumatic experiences as well as people struggling with the emotional impact of neurodiversity (Autistic Spectrum Conditions and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
How do I work with clients?
Everyone is unique and faces their own specific difficulties. An initial consultation provides an opportunity for us to meet and gain a basic picture of the problems or difficulties you are experiencing. In most cases new clients require 2 initial consultations. These first sessions provide sufficient time to take a full history, will offer you a taste of psychodynamic psychotherapy and can help you decide if this type of therapy is suitable for you.
If we agree to proceed with therapy we would arrange a format for working together, covering how many sessions per week and fees. Regular therapy sessions last 50 minutes. As we are all complex and react differently to situations, there is no such thing as a ‘standard’ treatment period; it is always tailored to each person’s individual needs. If there has been a great deal of emotional distress you might require more contact and support to provide in-depth help and understanding. In this situation a more intensive therapy might be recommended, at least initially, which entails meeting several times a week.
